My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
He who answers a matter before he hears it—this is folly and disgrace to him.
if you incline your ear to wisdom and direct your heart to understanding,
He who has ears, let him hear.
If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”
Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear.
Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in airing his opinions.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to eat from the tree of life in the Paradise of God.
And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, you are also an heir through God. Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!”
And we continually thank God because, when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as the true word of God—the word which is now at work in you who believe.
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.
And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him.
But He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and carry it out.”
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
“Speak to us yourself and we will listen,” they said to Moses. “But do not let God speak to us, or we will die.”
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to counsel.

Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who ignores reproof goes astray.
I love the LORD, for He has heard my voice—my appeal for mercy. Because He has inclined His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.

You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,
Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand.
Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me!
Once again Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “All of you, listen to Me and understand:
For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but with many counselors comes deliverance.

Among those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
He who listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not lose sight of them; keep them within your heart.
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will flee from him because they do not recognize his voice.”
But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
A wise son heeds his father’s discipline, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.
He who guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from distress.
Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. For I give you sound teaching; do not abandon my directive. When I was a son to my father, tender and the only child of my mother, he taught me and said, “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn from them. . . .
I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because Abraham listened to My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!” When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astonished at His teaching, . . .
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
My son, if you accept my words and hide my commandments within you, if you incline your ear to wisdom and direct your heart to understanding, if you truly call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, if you seek it like silver and search it out like hidden treasure, then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.
A song of ascents. Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD! O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to my plea for mercy.
I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
I will strengthen the house of Judah and save the house of Joseph. I will restore them because I have compassion on them, and they will be as though I had not rejected them. For I am the LORD their God, and I will answer them.
But avoid irreverent, empty chatter, which will only lead to more ungodliness, and the talk of such men will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have deviated from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already occurred, and they undermine the faith of some. Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.” A large house contains not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay. Some indeed are for honorable use, but others are for common use. . . .
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,
Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me as signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. They will roam the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged; and looking upward, they will curse their king and their God. Then they will look to the earth and see only distress and darkness and the gloom of anguish. And they will be driven into utter darkness. . . .
Whoever is slothful in his work is brother to him who destroys.
You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
